This North Carolina skiing resort is conveniently located approximately 50 minutes from Hickory, North Carolina, and around 93 miles from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Appalachian Ski Mountain Being located in between Blowing Rock and Boone, the Appalachian Ski Mountain is considered one of the best places to take a North Carolina skiing vacation. The mountain this resort is located on is 4000 feet above sea level, with a vertical drop of over 350 feet. This helps to make it such a thrilling ride, all the way down. Sapphire Valley offers North Carolina skiing on two separate trails, which are both served by a brand new lift. There is also a multi-laned tubing hill, for those who prefer to tube.
